Barry Walstead

Barry grew up paddling an old canoe around a little island in Puget Sound as a kid making lifelong memories. But then life, love and children kept him from pursuing kayaking until his later 20’s. Ten years later, and he has dove into paddling and enjoys sea kayaks, surf kayaks, paddleboards and canoes (and surfing, did I mention surfing in his new surf kayak!) Last year he learned to love river trips in a canoe, and added one to the fleet!
He has been coaching for three years, starting with Washington Kayak Club and Lumpy two years ago as a safety boater.
This spring he completed his ACA Level 3 Coastal Kayak Instructor certification.
For the last two years he has been co-chair of training, a board member for WKC and a lead coach for their yearly Basic Course and Coastal Clinic.
You can usually identify him on the water as the guy with the bright colored kayak, lifejacket and helmet with the crazy grin on his face.
Now let’s get Lumpy!
